Our physical education program encourages the development of physical, mental and social skills by introducing students to a wide range of basic motor skills, physical and sporting activities.
Coorara has outstanding sporting facilities and resources. Our purpose built school hall is equipped with gymnastic equipment, full size basketball/netball/volleyball court. We have a full size football and soccer oval and cricket pitch and cricket nets. Our yard area has extensive markings for a variety of games and a full size basketball and netball court.
Class fitness is timetabled into the classroom learning program. Students at Coorara are encouraged to be active.
Our Physical Education program focuses on encouraging maximum participation and reduces the emphasis on winning and losing. Students in Reception to Year 2 take part in activities that develop the fundamental skills of locomotion, ball control, throwing, catching and kicking. These skills are developed through games. Students in Year 3-7 take part in activities that build on these fundamental skills which are developed through sporting activities. Bike Education is offered every alternative year to students in years 5 to 7.
Sports Day is a highlight of the annual school calendar. The focus of sports day is to participate, have fun, be a good sport and be active.
Students in years 5-7 are encouraged to participate in SAPSASA sporting events including district Athletics Day, swimmining carnival, cross country, knockout football/netball and rugby carnival.
Coorara is part of the Sporting Schools Program which enables classes to have intensive training in a varirty of sports during school hours. Activities may include circus skills, AFL, milti skills, dance, golf, soccer, netball and basketball. This program is offered free of charge to students attending Coorara.
